What: Luminary Quilt by Jamie Swanson class

When: Monday, 25 May

Where: Hyggeligt, 144 Queen St E, St Marys

Time: arrive by 9am to set up, class runs from 9:30 to 3:30

Who: Louise Hamilton from Purple Rooster Quilting will be your instructor

Lunch: brown bag it, we will have water available as no coffee, sodas, etc are allowed at the working tables.

The Luminary Quilt is both beautiful and also surprisingly simple. Picking the colours is the most important thing.

The quilt is basically made up of three rounds of pieced diamonds and a background.

We suggest using a layer cake with a gradient from one colour family to the next.

Within the gradient there should be lights and darks of each colour family.

Bring lights and darks from your stash if your layer cake is mostly medium values.

Prep: you will precut the layer cake into strips before class so we can get right into sorting and sewing. See  below

Supply list:

-pattern must be purchased from Jamie Swanson at this link.  USD14.99

-an appropriate layer cake as mentioned above, you will need 200 10" strips

-2 yards of background fabric

-the shop has a limited numbers of machines in the classroom that would need to be booked in advance and then you would bring your own

-basic sewing supplies

-rotary cutter with new blade

-12" cutting mat to use at your station, the store has a huge cutting table

-12" ruler with 45 degree angle marked

-ironing stations will be set up.

Before Class Prep:

Cut layer cake into the following strip sets:

-one 2 1/2", one 2 1/4", one 2", one 1 3/4" and one 1 1/2"

You will have a variety of strip widths ready to go.

If you need to add light/dark to get the right variety, cut similarly using 10" lengths.

If you have a few strips wider/narrower, for this quilt that is okay - it is very forgiving.

Group into colour families.

Louise will help you with this before you start sewing.
